Expectations Of Society

I am tired of how society treats me

Trapped in a cage, never going to be set free

They want me to be an emotionless machine

Handsome, tall, muscular and lean

They want me to earn money in the billions

And donate my wealth in the millions

They want me to be their eyes to see

They want to own me, they decree

They want me to make sure the grass is green

And the way the talk to me is quite mean

They want me to get their work done

They want me to walk all day in the sun

They want me to wear a plastic smile

They want me to grin all the while

They want me to turn the other cheek

They want me to give to the meek

They want me to not question anything

They want me to break dance and sing

But they never think that I am more than a machine

They never think of the person inside

They never think that its hard to grin

When its tears you’re trying to hide

They never think that I’m anything more

Than a programmable device

They never think that in my core

I have my virtues and vices

They never think that I’m real

They never care about me

They never think that I feel

A need to be set free

They are always the ones to bow

And if you believe in an apocalypse

I am telling you now

The apocalypse is this

When people are cruel to each other, hatred grows

It is like the epitome of madness

And there is an interesting fact, did you know

That humans are the only animals that pay to live on this planet

My parents told me that I needed to try my best to succeed

I believe that statement is true, indeed

To sow a good seed you have to perform a good deed

Otherwise what is left is a rotten, decayed, battered, old seed

It’s funny how people avoid the quiet ones

They think it’s because they have nothing upstairs that they keep their mouths shut

Well, who ever told them that was wrong

It’s because if they start talking about their ideas, they would keep talking non-stop

I hate it when people treat other people like trash

I hate it when people are soft but act tough

I hate it when people are rash

I hate it when people make other people’s life rough

I hate it when someone can’t get her voice heard

I hate it when someone is expected to please others

I hate it when she is called names like geek, retard and nerd

I hate it when people insult his mother

What does it take to be set free

What does it take to open your eyes and see

What does it take to let me be

But most of all, what does it take to be me

I want my voice to be heard

I want to have my rights

I want to be treated as a human

I want to talk with words and not might

I want to have a say

I want to settle a fight

But most of all

I want to be me
